Unless its 3am and you've been drinking a lot of Ouzo you probably won't be seeing a crowd of dogs in line for the infamous Maple-Bacon Bar at Portland's Voodoo Doughnut. But it is always a fun and lively circus to the eyes and senses. And hey, with all the dog lovers in Portland, you never know!
You will find racks of colorful, imaginative doughnuts, loud music and hardworking tattooed "doughnuteers" awaiting you in the grittiest area of downtown Portland. Close to The Portland Saturday Market and the Burnside Bridge. Friends first, Voodoo entrepreneurs second, Kenneth "Cat Daddy" Pogson and Tres Shannon opened their flagship shop at 22 SW 3rd Avenue on May 30, 2003 and has since become an international attraction. Open 24 hours, cash only and a line that snakes around the building at all times. It's rumored that to get the very freshest doughnuts at 9am, look for the ones on brown paper- 9pm on white paper.
My favorite is a chocolate cake doughnut with chocolate frosting and coco puffs, called Triple Chocolate Penetration. Too bad I can't share that one with my dogs.
